From the second I sat down with Isaac + Susan, I knew I liked them. Their love story is down right perfect and extremely unique and they don’t take it for granted, not even for a second. They are head over heals in love with each other and it’s obvious even if you only spend five minutes with them. They are so attentive to each other that when you’re speaking to one of them and the other one steps into the same room, you will have completely lost their attention…. it’s rather sweet. They really do seem like they were made for each other. A treat for a love story-obsessed photographer like me to witness.
Because Susan was living in Chicago and the actual wedding was going to be on Hutchinson Island in south Florida, the wedding planning fell to them both as a couple. As many brides know, planning a wedding long distance is no easy task, and having a groom who was so willing to jump in and make it happen was an added blessing for both of them. In all their wedding planning, it seemed like two things were paramount. One, their faith and two, the people they love. If I had to sum up their wedding in just a few words, I could easily come back to relationships. Isaac and Susan are all about relationships. Their day was focused on the people that mattered most to them. Between a massive amount of friends that attended their wedding from all over the world, (I believe we had Chicago, Texas, Argentina, and more represented) a very large bridal party, (they’re popular people!) and a solid amount of family, they were surrounded by loved ones all day long.
I loved all of their custom touches, making their wedding uniquely them. From the bride’s custom designed wedding gown to the wedding rings that the groom designed for the bride. Susan had a really fun idea that instead of hiring a floral designer to design her bridal bouquets, she would have the designer teach a workshop for her and her girls to learn how to build the bouquets together. Again, totally relationship focused and tons of fun for her and the wedding party. She had Jenny with Port and Palm Co come in and do an amazing floral design workshop that I was privileged to photograph as well. It pretty much took all my self control not to put down my camera and grab a stack of flowers to join in the fun. That may or may not deserve a separate blog. 😉
Isaac and Susan decided on a first look for their wedding day, which I happen to be a huge fan of. In fact, I wrote a long blog post about why I’m a huge fan and in case you’re curious, you can find here. Susan grew up in England and although I couldn’t quite find the English garden location I had at first considered (apparently tropical south Florida doesn’t do that around here), I was extremely happy with the ‘garden ish’ look I found. They shared time of prayer together and he read her the 23rd Psalm sitting on a bench under a fantastic tree filled with Spanish moss. I loved every moment. Because Isaac loves the beach and we were on the gorgeous Hutchinson Island, our second location was all sand and tropical waters. A little slightly hidden beach just south from House of Refuge.
Probably my very favorite part of their beautiful wedding day was all the dancing. Not only did the bride and groom dance a choreographed Tango in to a Salsa for their first dance…. which deserves a moment of silence in itself because it was, infact… fantastic, they (and all their families) danced all night long. A true highlight was watching the groom’s dad dance with his granddaughter, spinning her all over the dance floor to her absolute delight. Watching the parents of both families dancing together with so much joy and celebration and watching Isaac’s family undone with emotion at the end of the night as he honored the family members with a special and highly emotional dance.
Isaac and Susan, it was truly an honor. Everyone else, enjoy.
