K and A are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet! They had a vision for their wedding day, one that leaned a little outside tradition with a destination micro wedding. They didn’t want huge crowds or a big, elaborate event. Instead, they wanted something intimate, something that truly reflected what they wanted for each other.
It’s hard to put into words just how much thoughtfulness went into this day.
When I arrived at the getting ready space, both of them were already there—along with the cutest dog you’ve ever seen. One of my favorite things is when couples get ready together. There are so many ways to make it work. And in this case, the space was big enough that they could each take different parts of the house. It gave them the chance to have a quiet, intimate time to themselves while still being close. Seeing them call out to each other across the house, laughing and giggling, reminding each other of little things—”Don’t forget this!” “I can’t wait to see you!”—it was the most adorable build-up of excitement.
K and A are incredibly thoughtful people, and that thoughtfulness showed in every part of their celebration. The details were absolutely incredible. From the custom jewelry they made for each other (and for their dog!), to the food they chose from places that held special memories, like their first date or their favorite bakery. Every little detail had meaning, and it made the day feel so uniquely them.
They had a close friend officiate, which only added to the warmth and intimacy of the day. If I had to sum it all up, I’d say it was kind, loving, beautiful, romantic. But even those words don’t fully capture it. Being part of this day left me feeling truly grateful.
There was a moment when we were leaving the courthouse, the two of them we’re just giddy with being married. It was a truly happy moment. It happened to be in the month of June, well planned for this same-sex couple’s wedding day although it simply fell that way because of an anniversary. They picked up a newspaper that said something about PRIDE on the front with lots of joy and rainbows… it just happened to be sitting there, not planned, not a prop, just a sweet reminder that the city was celebrating them too. Although that was hard to miss with everyone waving and honking, and stopping to congratulate them.
To be clear, I love being part of all my couples’ celebrations, but I remember leaving that day thinking, That was something really special. There’s something about a small, intimate wedding that makes you realize what a privilege it is to be in that room and to witness those moments.
K and A, it was truly an honor to be part of your destination micro wedding. Thank you for letting me share in such a beautiful moment, it’s one I won’t forget anytime soon!
