Chic Editorial Summer Engagement

Kayla and Eric’s Chic Editorial Summer Engagement

Summer is the season of love, weddings, and of course engagements. What better way to celebrate your love than with a chic editorial summer engagement session? Whether you’re looking to capture the beauty of your relationship in a breathtaking setting or want to create stunning images for your save-the-date invitations, a chic editorial summer engagement session is the perfect way to do it. We offer engagement sessions with all of our wedding collections for multiple reasons. One of the biggest being that most couples can use a little practice in front of the camera that is not happening on their wedding day. Honestly, Kayla and Eric might be the exception to that rule. These two had it covered.

When it comes to planning a chic editorial summer engagement shoot, the first step is to choose the right location. We started out at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, and when I saw Kayla step out of her car I knew we were going to be in for a great afternoon. The two of them have style for days. Put them at a great venue and you’re just asking for magic. Consider a location that not only represents your personality but also has a beautiful backdrop for photos. A picturesque beach, a lush garden (thank you Stan Hywet), or a trendy rooftop are all great options.

Once you’ve decided on a location, it’s time to start thinking about your wardrobe. As I said, these two could teach a class. Because this tends to be one of the most difficult parts of the session we always send out a style guide. This helps our couples with their engagement style choices but honestly, I don’t think these two needed it at all. Evidenced by matching green shoes. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with vibrant colors and playful patterns, so don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles. Choose outfits that complement each other, but don’t match too closely. You want your outfits to be cohesive but not too matchy-matchy.

Of course, to create a chic editorial look for your summer engagement session, you’ll need to consider hiring a photography team who specializes in editorial photography. What does that mean? We have the expertise to capture stunning photos that tell a story and evoke emotion. To me, an engagement session is a bookend of your love story. It’s part of the story that you can share that tells who the two of you are and how you fell in love. It shares all that you’ve been through and how excited you are to be committing to the rest of your life. Your wedding day will be an incredible story in the middle. Then, hopefully, you’ll have lots of anniversaries and potentially even family portraits that bookend on the other side.

Another important aspect to consider when planning a session like this is the lighting. Summer sunlight can be harsh and unflattering, so it’s essential to schedule your shoot during the golden hour – the hour before sunset when the light is soft and warm. The golden hour provides the perfect lighting for dreamy, romantic photos that will take your breath away.

An engagement session is the perfect way to capture your love and create lasting memories. With the right location, wardrobe, photographer, and lighting, you can create stunning images that will be cherished for a lifetime. So go ahead, follow Kayla and Eric’s example and plan that dreamy summer engagement session, and tell your story!
