The first time I talked with this bride, I knew she was someone who was going to create something truly special. She told me she had been dreaming about her wedding day for years, and you could hear the excitement in her voice.
When we connected, she hadn’t even chosen a venue or a date yet, but we just sort of clicked. She was telling me about her vision, the things she cared about, and the elements she wanted to pull in to make something really beautiful. She told me about what mattered to her and her family, and she told me about her fiancé, and how they were planning to bring something entirely different together by celebrating their Jordanian and Scottish heritage.
Multicultural Weddings Done Right
One of my favorite things about multicultural weddings is how you can take two completely different parts of the world, or parts of your family, and bring them together. While yes, it’s about the two of you as a couple, it’s also about your families and their hopes and dreams for you, especially when you’re planning a heritage-driven wedding.
She wanted something that really highlighted the importance of her family’s traditions and what mattered to her, but also the importance of his Scottish traditions, with a lot of the groom’s family coming from Scotland to participate. Bringing those two things together might feel like a contrast, but like any great design, contrasts pull together beautifully.
A Truss Wedding Built for Impact
After a traditional Orthodox church ceremony, they chose the Truss Event Venue for the reception. It’s a modern venue in Cleveland, and as a city, we’re incredibly lucky to have so many venues to choose from. Although when it comes to a modern, clean aesthetic, the list gets surprisingly smaller.
One of my favorite moments of the entire event was watching the bride walk in and see the room for the first time. This is someone who had worked and thought and planned and come up with so many ways to celebrate, and to see her experience the joy of what she had envisioned was absolutely fantastic. She kept saying, “I can’t wait for everybody else to see this. This is so fun. I can’t wait for everybody else to enjoy this.”
One of the most unforgettable elements was the floral design by Molly Taylor & Co. The installation was massive, including not only florals but also fruit and other textural elements. It was so fun how they used the modern elements of the space and incorporated them into the overall design vision.
When Cultures Come Together
Aside from this wedding being exceptionally beautiful, and the couple looking like they belonged in a magazine, watching a wedding like this unfold is special for so many other reasons. Seeing cultures come together is one of my favorite things.
This doesn’t just happen at multicultural weddings, but it’s especially fun when you see a couple work so hard to honor and include their families. The traditions they chose were very specific to what they felt both families would enjoy participating in on both sides, and it was very cool to see that take place. One of my favorite moments was watching some of the Scottish cousins dancing their hearts out to the Dabke happening on the dance floor.
People enjoying each other and having a blast is such a good illustration of what weddings are supposed to be about to begin with. Celebrating the people you love, connecting even across the world, and including a level of joy that really is a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Both families brought high levels of energy, beautiful culture, and fantastic color-filled traditions. And of course, one side brought some really great bagpipe music.
Staying Present Through It All
The couple had an absolute blast throughout the day. Not just enjoying the moments, but actually being present in them – down to the groom playing chess with his guys before the ceremony began. It felt like the wedding had room to breathe, even with all the elements they’d included. That’s what makes a celebration wonderful.
I loved watching the bride get the day of her dreams. Her celebration was every bit what she wanted it to be, and seeing that happen in real time was pretty amazing. Truss held this celebration beautifully, but honestly, if the couple hadn’t been committed to designing something they felt so comfortable in, we never would have gotten to experience it in the way we did. What a joy to celebrate with their whole family.
