B & C’s Epic New York City Top of the Rock Elopement
The Top of the Rock is one of those iconic New York City spots that feels instantly familiar, even if you’ve never actually set foot in the city. From movies to postcards, it’s been etched into pop culture as the skyline view.
Now I’ll be honest, heights aren’t exactly my favorite thing. So it’s not my personal first choice for a wedding spot in NYC. But for couples who love a sweeping city view and a bit of adventure? You truly can’t get higher than the Top of the Rock.
B and C are exactly that kind of people: adventurous souls who bring so much heart and curiosity to whatever they’re doing. From the very first conversation with them, I knew we’d get along effortlessly.
My favorite moment from our time together? It was the ride up.
If you’ve never been there, the elevator experience is something else. It’s like a little slice of Disney in Manhattan. You’re ushered through winding ropes and into this Tower-of-Terror-esque elevator that delivers you to a small theater-like space. That’s where it started getting very Hallmark movie-ish…
B and C were given front-row treatment (perks of showing up in wedding attire, obviously) and we all watched a short film together. It’s a nostalgic tribute to New York. It touched on everything from the dreams that built this city to the immigrant labor that brought places like the Rockefeller Center to life. It was romantic, emotional, and so incredibly New York.
At the end, the two of them turned to each other, threw their arms around one another, and kissed. And the whole place just erupted into clapping and cheers. Now, I’m someone who’s around romance and love stories all the time. And usually, the things that get me emotional are, like, Grandma’s sweet little comments…or Dad seeing his daughter in the dress for the first time…you know, those moments. But this? This was genuinely one of the sweetest things I’ve seen in a long time.
The two of them are just the kind of people who are always up for an adventure, trying new things, going new places, and just genuinely excited to be together no matter what they’re doing. They’re smart, they’re funny, they’re a total joy to be around. But more than anything, they care about the people around them. And those are my favorite kinds of people. I got to hear about B’s mom’s and their incredible love story, and we ended up talking about everything from why inclusive professionals matter so much in the wedding world to the best food in the city and why you always need a food plan when you travel. These two? 100% my kind of people.
The evening wrapped up with the most breathtaking sunset. I’m talking a full-on golden hour moment that only happens when you’re literally sitting on top of the world.
The two of them stood close together as the sun set over Manhattan. They were ready for their next big kiss moment, but this time, the crowd was bigger. Dozens of strangers who had all climbed to the top to catch a sunset ended up circling around them, giving them space and quiet admiration. It was this perfect, respectful little semicircle – New Yorkers (and visitors) showing up in the coolest way.
There they stood, holding each other tightly on the rooftop of a city that never sleeps, soaking in the view, the moment, the love.
