Meet Cheryl and Travis…
These guys are adventurous people. You may remember Cheryl and Travis from this shoot, in which the highlight for me was looking out into a very flooded preserve area and lamenting ‘if only I could find some way to get you out there in the middle’. That is when Travis picked her up and carried her out into the middle of the swamp/pond/wetland all while fighting off who knows what water animals you south Floridians ignore. It was epic, and I got the image. The guy is a marine, what can I say.
So, as much as the Great Outdoors were epic and a lot of fun, it was definitely a contrast from our shoot right in the middle of Downtown West Palm Beach, Florida.
I have to say that West Palm has become one of my favorite little areas in South Florida. Coming from Los Angeles and missing so much about the Southern California culture, it has been at times difficult adjusting to a very different lifestyle here in Florida. Just ask any of my friends…. 😉 If you have followed along at all, I’m sure you know that I am very much a city person. I love wide open space for raising a family and taking the days a little more slowly but I also need to be in the city at least every week in order to maintain… um… sanity.
Miami is definitely a great love for me, but it’s more of a commitment as well. I don’t know the city as much as I would like to, aka I still need my GPS not to get lost. All of its roads go in circles, (LA’s are in logical grids). I can’t use the ocean for a landmark (because it surrounds everything) and I kind of feel like I have to make a day out of that one because it’s a fair drive for me.
West Palm Beach has kinda become the happy medium. It’s what I affectionately call my “cute little city”. It reminds me of Pasadena (any socal friends out there get me) and it’s just… cute. Like a city, but like, a cute little one. Hence my brilliant nick name. Someone should needlepoint that on a pillow…
Anyway, I love it. Its cute little nicks and crannies, coffee shops and overall ‘it’ll be ok, you can make it in the quiet country one more week’ kinda vibes for me… it has my back.
So, in this fantastic wedding shoot, we started with our bride and groom back by the Norton Museum of Art and basically made a tour of West Palm. Be. Still. My. Heart. I do wish you all could have been there, jumping in and out of cars, laughing hysterically… me moving the car cause we were going to be there for like 2 seconds and parking where they wanted $10 to park… ha. #ithinknot #tourists #everyonelaughingatme
I love weddings of all kinds but I genuinely have a soft spot in my heart for the random, nontraditional… the different. So, with gorgeous Flower and Fringe flowers in hand, we went running to and fro in back alleys and stopping traffic cause I was in the middle of the street shooting (note to self, don’t die) is kinda my favorite.
I think I am beyond blessed with so many beautiful brides but I love how different and unique each and everyone is. I also loved hearing more of Cheryl and Travis’s story that I didn’t know. How they met, fell in love, and got married. I’m not really sure how to describe them except to tell you that these people danced to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” as their first dance. Seriously, guys, how AMAZING is that??? I just think it’s the cutest thing ever. That’s how they are with each other, just, you know…. buds. I love it. When your spouse is your best friend. #youwin
At one point, towards the end of our time, it was almost completely dark and they were dancing under this completely awesome building… I realized we all got so quiet just watching the two of them. Her wedding dress flowing in the wind, completely oblivious to anyone around them. It was right about then that I started hearing the team in the background murmur things like… “well… that’s it, I think I believe in love again.” LOL
Cheryl and Travis, thanks for helping us believe in love and sharing your story! Everyone else enjoy!
PS – Life is never complete without fantastic vendors but when they’re as wonderful as this group?? Sigh… See below for vendor credits and how truly amazing these ladies are. I LOVE collaborating with each of them.
